Old Boy and current Chief shows act of generosity for St Michel School - Vanuatu

Today, Old boy Liam Coombes-Fabling showed the current students what it is to be Marist. Liam kindly arranged and donated a signed Chiefs' rugby jersey to be auctioned off to raise funds for St Michel School in Luganville, Vanuatu. Liam was a member of the inaugural group back in 2015 who visited Vanuatu to dive the various wrecks, reefs and amazing sites on offer who toured the school. St Michel School is a Catholic french speaking school who have very few resources and most of the schools funding pays for teacher salaries and rebuilds from the Cyclone Pam and Harold. Over the past 10 plus years Mr Miller has taken groups biannually for the overseas scuba diving experience while also providing the tour group with some cultural excursions, one being to visit St Michel School and personally deliver the donations.

In the lead up to next years trip Mr Miller reached out to previous attendees for any donations and Coombes-Fabling replied straight away saying “I’ll sort something for you sir”. True to his word he delivered. Coombes-Fabling still has fond memories of the trip and was grateful for the experience.

Being able to assist in a small way was Liam’s way of giving back and hopefully helping the cause to generate plenty of funds to buy as much sporting goods as the group can to take, according to their weight allowances, for St Michel School.

This act of generosity is a way of showing that Coombes-Fabling is truely a Marist Man living out the Catholic charisms of St John’s College.
