Join the St John's College Board of Trustees
Nominate yourself or someone you know to be a school board member. Nominations are open between 18 July and 12 noon on 6 August.

Your opportunity to help shape and direct the strategic direction of St John’s College is here. Every three years all public schools in Aotearoa hold elections for their School Boards, and this is going to happen again in 2025. We encourage you to stand as one of our elected representatives in the School Board of Trustee elections in September.

Our Board of Trustees needs people with a range of skills and experiences to help set the strategic direction and plans for the school, monitor and evaluate student progress and oversee the management of staff, property, finances, curriculum and administration.

School Trustees need to be able to work well in a team, ask challenging questions and have good communication skills.

Current elected parent representative Damian Mills has been on the St John’s College Board since 2022 and encourages other parents to become a Trustee.

“As parents, your voice is invaluable at St. John's College. Please consider joining our Board of Trustees and help shape a brighter future for every student. It's a powerful way to contribute to our college community and directly impact the strategic direction and wellbeing of your son's educational journey."

St John’s College Board of Trustees comprises five elected parent representatives, four proprietor representatives appointed by the RC Bishop of Hamilton, the Principal, a staff representative (elected every three years) and a student representative (elected annually).

“We’ve been blessed with a great multi-term Board. This year our parent representative Trustees will not be seeking re-election as their families have now completed their journey with St John’s. This is an excellent opportunity for five new trustees to join and add their skills and experiences in support of our great school,” says Richard Doohan, current BOT Chairperson.

Keep an eye out of the school’s communication channels such as website, social media and emails for the call for nominations. The Call for Nominations opens on Friday 18 July and closes 12noon on Wednesday 6 August. This year St John’s College will be using online voting to elect five Parent representatives with postal voting available for anyone who doesn’t have an email address.

If you have any questions or would like more information about becoming a school trustee, please email our Board Secretary Kaye Tanner Jones [email protected]
